Dr Sally H. Lai

Program Director & Lead Instructor

Sally has a PhD in Psychology (University of Queensland) and many years of experience in adult/tertiary education and social research. She is a highly experienced researcher and evaluator of public policies and social services/programs. She has also trained as a Self-Defence Instructor, with martial arts training in Boxing, Kali and Krav Maga, and is a member of the National Women's Martial Arts Federation (NWMAF).

For Sally, P2SP is an amalgamation of her interests and passion in individual empowerment, applied research, psychology, and achieving positive outcomes for individuals and the broader society.

When she is not working, she loves spending time in nature, hiking, reading, immersing in arts and crafts, and pondering about life with friends.

Dr Sharon Dane-Hobson

Associate Instructor

Sharon was awarded a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Queensland. She has worked extensively in the areas of social research and self-defence. Sharon was awarded a black belt in the martial art Tae Kwon Do and followed on as an instructor. She was also the director and lead instructor for the Australian chapter of IMPACT self-defence for women, after extensive training in San Francisco.

Having been involved in self-defence for over 12 years, Sharon remains dedicated to working with women on their journey of empowerment. For Sharon, self-defence is not training that you switch on when needed. It becomes a way of life.

Sharon and her partner spend their time kayaking, hiking and attempting to travel every corner of Australia.
