About Us
Power2SelfProtect (P2SP) is an evidence-based self-defence program for women.
It was developed by Dr Sally Lai (PhD, Psychology), who drew on resources, expert advice and support from organisations and individuals working in the field of women's rights, gendered violence, and empowerment self-defence internationally. The result is an empowerment-based program that encompasses mental, verbal and physical aspects of self-defence, which are designed to build knowledge, skills and confidence in self-protection.
The program takes into account the unique needs and circumstances of women. We recognise the need for self-defence training in Australia to reflect the reality of violence/harm that women face and address the underlying social causes of gendered violence and barriers to using self-defence.
P2SP is driven by women and fueled by the tireless work of women around the world to promote the rights and well-being of women and minority and vulnerable groups.
We invite you to be part of the P2SP community and join the global movement in empowerment self-defence!
The Story Behind Our Logo...
The P2SP Logo is based on the design ideas of Sachiko Ueno, Alice Zaloudek, Michael Lai and Sally Lai to embody the spirit of P2SP and empowerment self-defence.
Dark teal conveys calm and thoughtfulness while orange symbolises warmth and positive energy. The logo articulates the 3 fundamental and interconnected elements of self-defence that support our physical and psychological safety - mind (mental), voice (verbal), and body (physical).
